The Darkest Files is set to make its debut on March 25, 2025, and it's shaping up to be a game that history buffs and mystery enthusiasts won't want to miss. Developed by the acclaimed German indie studio Paintbucket Games, known for their previous work on Through The Darkest of Times, this upcoming title promises to offer a gripping narrative experience. The game is a historical investigation and court drama where players step into the shoes of Esther Katz, an ambitious young prosecutor tasked with solving unsolved crimes from the Nazi era.

In The Darkest Files, players will delve deep into post-war Germany of the 1950s. As Esther Katz, you'll join the ranks of the renowned historical figure Fritz Bauer, a real-life Attorney General known for his relentless pursuit of justice against Nazi war criminals. The gameplay involves interviewing witnesses, uncovering crucial clues, and piecing together the truth to bring perpetrators to justice. The game is designed with an open deduction mechanic and boasts stunning cell-shaded graphics reminiscent of 1950s pulp comics, which adds a unique visual flair to the experience.

Jörg Friedrich from Paintbucket Games shared their vision for the game: "We want to make a gripping investigation and court game based on real cases that can provoke thought and discussion about justice and history."
